How It Works

Order Mode

  • Drag the event cards into the slots from earliest on the left to latest on the right.
  • Fill every slot, then press Finished!
  • Wrong spots flash red. Fix them and try again.

Place Mode

  • Drag each card to the number line. Left is BCE, right is CE.
  • Cards snap to nearby ticks. Use the unlock icon to move a placed card again.
  • Press Check to see your average error in years.

Guided Timeline

  • Read the prompt, then click (or Shift+click) to place the year.
  • Use Zoom, Pan, and Center to find the right spot.
  • Press Check → then Next or Finish.

Timer & Score

  • Choose a timer or practice with no timer.
  • In Order Mode, finishing early adds a small time bonus.

Tip: The Vocabulary Coach above explains BCE, CE, centuries, and more.

Teacher Tips
  • Start with Order for simple sequencing; use Place or Guided to practice number lines.
  • Horizontal or Vertical orientation supports different spatial preferences.
  • Event cards always show the date with the title — students practice chronology, not recall.
  • Edit the event library in the EVENTS array (bottom of this file).
Why BCE / CE?

We use BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era). These labels work for everyone in a global classroom. They match the same years as BC/AD but don’t assume a religion or Latin words.
